In order to understand the importance of leadership to the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), SMEs are the major engine that drives the growth of any nation’s economy. Several researchers have suggested that leadership effectiveness is a key factor that rolls the performance of organizations. The literature has highlighted the significance of leadership to any organization. Besides, review of the literature suggests the leadership in SMEs enhances performance and growth. The study also attempted to examine leadership behavior that has been adopted by some leaders in the sector. The outcome of the review demonstrated that the performance and growth of SMEs is dependent on leadership effectiveness and management skills.
